In the budget year 2023–2024, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Shri MK Stalin stated that his administration would start a financial assistance program for state women. Nearly 1 million women in Tamil Nadu will benefit from the State Government’s Universal Basic Income Program thanks to the Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, which was recently introduced by the government of Tamil Nadu. The scheme which will provide assistance of Rs. 1000 per month, has been given a budget of Rs. 7000 Crore by the Tamil Nadu government. On the anniversary of the late Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai’s birth, September 15, 2023, online and offline registration for the Scheme will begin.

27th July Update:- 36 Lakh Applications Filled in 3 Days

In the past three days, since Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially began distributing applications in the Dharmapuri district on July 24, applications for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme have been received throughout Tamil Nadu in the amount of 36 lakh. Approximately 36, 06,974 applications had been received over the course of the three days as of Wednesday at 6 p.m., and 34,350 volunteers had helped with the registration process. 14,825 ration shop registration camps are to be hosted during the second phase of registration, which is slated to take place between August 5 and August 16. Four days or so before the start of these camps, applications and tokens will start to be distributed. On Wednesday, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena presided over a virtual conference with all District Collectors from the Secretariat to assess how the program had been implemented.

19th July Update: Camps to be Organized from July 24 to August 4

According to corporation commissioner Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, the Greater Chennai Corporation will organize camps in two phases to administer the monthly assistance program for women known as Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam. The first phase will take place from July 24 to August 4 in 98 wards. The second round will run from August 5 through August 16, covering 102 wards. On September 15, the Tamil Nadu government will introduce the program. According to Radhakrishnan, PDS shop employees would make home visits and hand out application papers and tokens that contain information about the dates and locations of the camps.

He advised applicants not to hurry to the camps and mentioned that police had received training in collecting biometric data. The camp hours are 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5. 30 pm, including Sundays. Bring your Aadhaar, ration card, power bill, and bank passbook, residents with you. The help desks close to these camps will be staffed by 703 people. In addition, 2,607 volunteers will help the personnel. A total of 3,473 individuals, including government employees and volunteers, will be needed to ensure the camps run well. To ensure efficient operation, Radhakrishnan claimed that all PDS employees were receiving training.
